The Rheumatology Research Foundation Appoints Eryn Marchiolo, MPH as the New Executive Director

ATLANTA — The Rheumatology Research Foundation (Foundation) has appointed Eryn Marchiolo, MPH, as its new executive director to lead the 40-year-old organization. Marchiolo, a long-time employee with the Foundation, assumed the role on Aug. 4.

Marchiolo, who previously served as the interim executive director, brings extensive institutional knowledge, deep experience in nonprofit management, and a long-standing commitment to supporting the rheumatology community. Throughout her tenure at the Foundation, she has held various roles, including Vice President of Mission and Senior Director of Research and Training.

“I am honored to serve as the next executive director of the Foundation,” said Marchiolo. “Over the past 40 years, this organization has become one of the largest private funding sources in the nation for rheumatology research and training programs. I am grateful to have been a part of its journey for the last 12 years, supporting investigators and practitioners who are expanding patient access to care and accelerating scientific discoveries.”

With nearly 20 years of experience in nonprofit management, Marchiolo has dedicated her career to advancing research and improving public health. Her work includes community-level work with the Dekalb County Board of Health and leading funding initiatives with Susan G. Komen for the Cure. At the Foundation, she provided strategic leadership over the awards and grants department and served as the staff liaison for the Scientific Advisory Council. Marchiolo also served as co-chair of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases Coalition.

“The board is excited to continue working with Ms. Marchiolo,” said Liana Fraenkel, MD, Foundation president. “She has been an integral part of the Foundation team by supporting governance, establishing new partnerships, and fostering essential connections with other organizations that have similar interests and missions as ours. We anticipate a smooth transition, impactful leadership, and a continued focus on the Foundation’s mission with Ms. Marchiolo at the helm."

“I have grown alongside this organization – shaping and executing strategies that have expanded our impact and deepened stakeholder trust. I look forward to leading our team and volunteers in advancing the work the Foundation does to improve the health of patients living with rheumatic disease,” Marchiolo concluded.

Rachel Myslinski, MBA, who has led the organization since 2021, stepped down in June to become the chief executive officer of the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance.
