Education and Training Awards
Building the rheumatology workforce in order to satisfy the growing demand for rheumatologists and rheumatology health professionals requires robust education and training opportunities. The Education and Training Awards help to cultivate future generations of rheumatology professionals and ensure people with rheumatic diseases have access to the care they need.
Fellowship Training Award for Workforce Expansion
Support for the training of a promising rheumatology fellow at an institution that has previously been unable to fill all of their ACGME-approved slots due to funding constraints or creation of a new slot or program
Purpose
Ensure an adequate supply of rheumatology providers meeting the needs of children and adults with rheumatic diseases in all areas of the country, particularly those currently underserved
Award Amount
$100,000 for adult programs; $150,000 for pediatric programs
Award Term
2 years for adult training programs, 3 years for pediatric training programs

Supplemental Award for Education & Training in Metabolic Bone Health
Purpose
This supplemental award provides funding to enhance fellows’ knowledge and training in osteoporosis and metabolic bone health.
Award Amount
Up to $7,500 to support fellow(s) participation in approved training opportunities
Application Deadline
Program directors interested in receiving supplemental funding should apply for this award via the Fellowship Training Award or the Fellowship Training Award for Workforce Expansion. Applications are due by June 1, 2026 at 5 PM ET.

The Rheumatology Research Foundation is issuing a notice of special interest (NOSI) to highlight the availability of funds for projects aimed at providing robust education and training materials for rheumatologists and health professionals in the areas of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease. Submissions will be accepted through the Foundation’s Clinician Scholar Educator Award.

Pediatric Visiting Professorship
Support for a board-certified professor of pediatric rheumatology to visit an academic institution that lacks expertise in the field
Purpose
Provide medical students and residents valuable exposure to pediatric rheumatology
Award Amount
A $1000 honorarium for virtual visits and a $1500 honorarium for in-person visits. Reimbursement of up to $1,500 in travel expenses including lodging, meals, airport parking, and ground transportation, for in-person visits.
