“A few months after Ruth and I got engaged, complications from lupus put Ruth in the hospital. We were married in her room in the Cardiac Care Unit at Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on May 6, 2003. Instead of a tux, I wore a yellow isolation gown and non-latex exam gloves. Ruth wore her hospital gown, remained hooked up to IV’s and had to stay in bed.”
