Audrey M. Nelson, Honored by the Foundation

October 20, 2018

ATLANTA – Audrey M. Nelson, MD was inducted into the Foundation’s Honorary Board of Advisors at the Donors of Merit event held Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the JW Marriot Chicago. Dr. Nelson is a retired rheumatologist from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She is one of the very early pediatric rheumatologists and has made contributions in education, research, clinical practice and administration.

Dr. Nelson's exceptional support of the Foundation allowed for the establishment of the Audrey M. Nelson, MD Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Endowment in Training. The endowment supports awards aimed at providing robust education and training opportunities for pediatric rheumatologists. Her generous commitment to the Foundation addresses the growing demand for pediatric rheumatologists to ensure children with rheumatic diseases have access to the care they need.

“The Foundation is a tremendous vehicle for us as rheumatologists to further our work in a way we couldn't otherwise through another mechanism. The Foundation is very effective at gathering funds in order to support underserved segments of the specialty. The growth of these opportunities has been amazing and I’m honored to support future opportunities for pediatric rheumatology,” said Dr. Nelson.

Dr. Nelson’s induction into the Foundation’s Honorary Board of Advisors was held in conjunction with the American College of Rheumatology/Association of Rheumatology Professionals Annual Meeting in Chicago. The honor is reserved for individuals who have made a transformative contribution, either through monetary support and/or act of leadership, which made an indelible mark on the Foundation’s future fundraising success.

Give today and help transform the future for millions of people living with rheumatic disease.
