Dr. Weaver HONORED FOR LEADERSHIP AND COMMITMENT TO THE FIELD OF RHEUMATOLOGY

November 13, 2016

ATLANTA – Arthur L. Weaver, MD, was inducted into the Rheumatology Research Foundation’s Honorary Board of Advisors at the Donors of Merit event held Saturday, November 12 at the St. Regis Washington, D.C. As the first president of the Foundation, Dr. Weaver was integral in the development of the Foundation’s Legacy Society, recognizing donors who have included the Foundation in their estate plans through bequests or life-income gifts.

“I think it's critically important that rheumatologists be involved at this level,” says Dr. Weaver. “What better place to put dollars after death than into something that you spent your whole life doing, and taking care of people with rheumatic disease? These people need help, just like everybody else does.”

Dr. Weaver retired from his career as a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center after more than 20 years of practice as a rheumatologist. He was the first president of the Foundation, as well as the first chair of the Planned Giving Campaign. Dr. Weaver, and his wife, Joanne, set a leadership example for others to follow by becoming the first members of The Legacy Society.

Dr. Weaver’s induction into the Foundation’s Honorary Board of Advisors was held in conjunction with the American College of Rheumatology/Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. The honor is reserved for individuals who have made a transformative contribution, either through monetary support and/or act of leadership, which made an indelible mark on the Foundation’s future fundraising success.

Give today and help transform the future for millions of people living with rheumatic disease.
